As a woman in a brown body...the infliction of racism and sexism has sat with me my entire life. Anti-blackness is the root of so much of our unnecessary suffering. On top of the expected human suffering that all human beings experience, we carry the lifelong burden of being hated for something as simple as skin tone and features. What is it about our blackness that has caused so much hostility from the world, especially those who brought us here as human property? I'll never understand. Racism has no logic. No conscious. No cognitive justification. Anti-blackness has affected us since we came from our mother's wombs. Anti-blackness systematically and directly affects all spectrums of our lives...from home to school, to professional environments, to our communities, to our love lives, to our friendships, to our day to day lives with the general public. Being a black woman especially, I get the special experience of simultaneously dealing with Anti-blackness and hatred of women. Black women have a special kind of suffering. We are expected to smile, be STRONG, be emotional and physical work mules, and be nurturing symbolic mothers to everyone but ourselves, through our abuse and mistreatment. Sonya Massey lived these experiences I know for sure...and on a regular evening of her creating her own peace in her own home, a white cop came and stole her life. Destroying not only her peace, but ripping a bullet through her face...all because she said, "I rebuke you in the name of Jesus."
I hate this country.
